The city gate in Lublin is a remnant of the first brick fortifications of the city, built in 1342 after being authorized by King Casimir III the Great.

The current monument has the shape given to it in 1785 by Dominik Merlini, the court architect of King Stanisław August Poniatowski, and its appearance is the result of an 18th-century renovation.

Grodzka Gate was also known as the Jewish Gate because it served as a passage between the Old Town and the Jewish district.

Today, Grodzka Gate houses the "Grodzka Gate – NN Theatre" Center.
